Are Air Fresheners Killing Our Pets?

Choose one: bad smells or toxic poison.

This may sound dramatic, but this is a choice that one woman faced when her home smelled like dirty animals.

Her granddaughter was determined to solve the smell for her, so she went on a mission to get rid of bad odors and found out a truth about air fresheners that may shock you...

Cat

Here, in a nutshell is Lisa's story...

My grandma stinks.

Her house smells too. It smells like dirty kitty litter and dust and wet dog. Really gross, and hard to describe, like grassy and greasy. My grandma has that “old people smell.” That smell that every nursing home I have ever walked into smells like.

It’s really bad too because she is kinda a hippy and is cheap. Like REALLY, REALLY, CHEAP. She’s so cheap that she goes as long as she can without washing her clothes because she wants to save money. She tries to cover up the smell with cheap perfume but that only makes it worse. Going to her house gives me a headache and makes me lose my appetite.

But, have you ever tried to tell someone that they stink? It’s too embarrassing! I couldn’t hurt Grandma’s feelings like that. I couldn’t tell my own grandma she smelled bad.

I just grinned and bared it every time I visited her because I wanted my son to have as many good memories of his Grammy as possible. But then something worse happened – my son started complaining.

My son is only 4 and he doesn’t know how to be polite yet. First, he started throwing tantrums to avoid going to Grammy’s house. Then, he straight-up said to Grammy, “You stink! It’s stinky in here!”

I was so embarrassed. I wanted to hide under a rock – how could my son be so rude?

But Grammy just smiled and shrugged, “I don’t stink, my dear, Sookie and Cookie stink. But there’s nothing I can do about it.” Cookie and Sookie are my grandma’s dog and cat.

I was shocked that Grammy admitted she knew there was a smell. I couldn’t understand why she lived with the smell if she understood it was there.

“Why don’t you use air fresheners then?” I asked.

Grandma chuckled, “Well. For one thing, air fresheners cost a lot of money to buy and replace. And 2, they don’t even work very well, and 3, I don’t want to poison my pets with VOC’s!”

“What?” I said, “What are VOCs?”

Grammy shrugged, “They’re the reason you should never use air freshener around your kids or dogs.”

When I got home I googled VOCs because, honestly, I just thought my grandma was being cheap and didn’t want to spend money on air fresheners.

But then I stumbled upon something a veterinarian posted.

It said to not use any air fresheners because they’re filled with something called VOC’s, Volatile Organic Compounds

SickDog

VOC's are extremely dangerous to our pets.

VOC's are nasty because of the way they disrupt any organic life when sprayed into the air as a gas - which is exactly what air freshener's do.

The ones in air fresheners are dangerous to us as well but not even close to how much they affect other animals

And they're in almost every brand out there - febreze, glade, airwick and many more!

Here are just a few of the side effects from the VOC’s on our pets:

    • Eye, nose and throat irritation
    • headaches, loss of coordination and nausea
    • damage to their liver, kidney and central nervous system
    • Known carcinogens (cancer-causing molecules) for pets like dogs and cats

So why don’t these companies just make these air fresheners without these chemicals in it?

That’s the thing, when all the research came out – a few of the most well-known air freshener brands in the world told us they changed their “secret” formula

That is until students from colombia university actually TESTED exactly what was in it and not only found the existence of the VOC’s but a ton of other crazy harmful chemicals that we had no idea were in there to begin with

Some corporate fat cats decided that their companies’ profits were more important than the health and safety of our family – and that’s not something I’ll ever participate in.

Now I had a dilemma though. My grandma’s house was stinky and my son didn’t want to visit her because of it. Not to mention I used air freshener in my own house around my own pet dogs (we have 2 chihuahuas)

I needed to find a solution or my son wouldn’t have good memories of my grandma, instead he would only have memories of how stinky her house smelled. Not to mention I didn’t want to poison my chihuahuas.

Then, something very lucky happened. I was scheduled to take one of my chihuahas in for a check-up when in my vet’s waiting room I noticed something odd…

Even with all the animals that come through there every single day – the place didn’t smell at all. How is that even possible?

My Vet, Luke, explained something life-changing when I asked him, “Honestly the chemicals in those air fresheners are way worse than you could imagine"

"I’ve even had a pet pass away because an air freshener that was labeled ‘pet friendly’ accidentally got sprayed onto his food"

"In my opinion, it’s criminal what those big air freshener companies are doing"

“I know exactly how you feel though"

"Even as a vet, it can be embarrassing when your place of business or home smells like dirty animals, and for the most part it’s really tough to get rid of”

“Since I couldn’t in good conscious use air fresheners, I used what I learned from my undergrad degree in molecular biology and started doing some research on alternatives since you can’t trust what the companies say anymore”

After a few research papers, I stumbled upon something called The X-All Pure Ionizer

product in hand

"The X-All Pure Ionizer harnesses cutting-edge ionic technology to release millions of negative ions that act like a powerful magnetic force, neutralizing odors, bacteria, and moisture at the source."

It made total sense... after all, ionizers are even used in veterinary settings to safely detoxify environments for poisoned pets.

The science was rock-solid, so I grabbed a few units for my office right away.

“They’re completely natural, chemical-free, and non-toxic, so even if your curious pet gets near them, they'll be perfectly safe AND no harmful residues or risks."

“All you need to do is plug in one X-All Pure Ionizer per small room and let it run quietly. With minimal maintenance, just a quick reset occasionally, it could keep tackling your odor issues for years on end."

"You can honestly use these anywhere. I even have them purifying my laundry room, bathroom, and car for nonstop freshness."

"I had to banish that lingering smell in just a few weeks, or my wedding would be called off!"

Desperate for a fast and effortless solution, I took my vet's advice and immediately ordered a few X-All Pure Ionizers for myself and one for Grammy! Once they arrived, I plugged one into each room of my house.

But the ultimate test? Deploying them at Grandma's place, where the odors were out of control.

When I showed them to Grammy, her first words were that I'd wasted my money... no way could these compact ionizers tackle the stubborn smells in her house!

But I fired back: There's no way it was a waste, thanks to their rock-solid money-back guarantee if they didn't deliver!

She shrugged and let me set them up around her home. To my utter amazement, just a few hours later, I noticed a massive difference!

It was like a breath of fresh air had swept through, everything felt crisp and clean! I couldn't detect a single whiff, even in the room with the kitty litter. And my son agreed, he didn't smell a thing and even gave Grammy a big hug!

The best part? Grammy never has to waste money on chemical-laden air fresheners again. The X-All Pure Ionizer totally solved the problem!

This is a set-and-forget device—no filters to manage. The indicator light is subtle, so it doesn’t bother me at night.
